Today is the first day of the new school year. So far, the before and after school program has lost our paperwork and check for payment for the first week. Apparently they mistakenly gave our completed registration packet, which included my son's personal information to include his full social security number, to someone else during the school's open house - thankfully the confused parent brought it back this morning. Otherwise, we would have had to cancel the check and worry about the possibility of the boy's SSN floating around. NOT a positive way to start off the year. My husband was annoyed that I was taking pictures at school as we were dropping our son off. I'm sorry he was embarassed, but the kid won't be seven forever, and he'll certainly never be starting the second grade at a new school ever again. I take photos to hold onto the memories a little better. And I write things down now, as much as possible, because they're so easy to forget. Such as this conversation that took place yesterday while doing chores:
Son: I'm going to destroy this whole world!
Me: But...I like this world. It's where I keep my stuff.
Son: Okay. Then I'm just going to destroy China!
Me: But...China is where they make the stuff. And anyway - why would you want to hurt a bunch of people who never did anything to you?
Son: Oh. I'll just destroy all the buildings, then...
See - some day I may need to be reminded that I was raising a nefarious super-villain!
