I accomplished a couple of things over the weekend and on my day off yesterday. First, I finished up my draft of the Jane Austen parody I was working on for the Bad Austen: Write Like Jane contest. It has been submitted, reviewed and posted, and is now open for voting. So far the votes cast have been a little south of fair, veering straight off into middling. I know it's not the best one submitted (I voted for a couple already that were really very good), so I am not holding out a lot of hope that mine will even make the runner-up cut. But still, it was an interesting opportunity, as far as story prompts go.
Secondly, I scrapped and redrafted my second essay for my writing class. It seemed like a successful attempt. The first draft was a complete over-reach, and too much for a writing class format. I've found that, although the group as a whole seems to appreciate complex, abstract, poetic styles, the matter-of-fact, workaday sort of voice I employ in my writing gets the most positive response in the roundtable discussion, which means the k.i.s.s. policy is working pretty well for me thus far.
Oh, and I raked the carpet of oak leaves in the front yard, finished digging up the second phase of our backyard garden (back breaking labor using a hand tiller - 'cause I'm that hard-core about gardening!) , cleaned up around the house, started a dog on a new path to a better life (hopefully...), and did a project for my boss. How's THAT for productivity!
